Short Biofor those who dont know/remember me, i had a brief tenure '78-79 in dan's wpscrt group, as the ois was being rolled out, and vs wp was being conceived. i believe i was hired not too long after paul exited, but i clearly never filled his shoes. paul, i always liked your comments intersperced in the pl/m code - i dont think anyone fell asleep reading your code. the footprints i left were, i believe, a few forgetable enhancements to the wps/ois editor and a crude version of cubic tic-tac-toe that i think ted or john tried to salvage later on. mark norton and i shared an apartment, while at work, i believe i was in the same area as lydia, pat (forgot her last name - not wing), ted, golini, renel and a few others.in '79 i tried my hand in marketing and joined dodge chu's asia pacific operations based in hong kong. in many ways it was a good move - business was great, i got a lot of career opportunities, and was able to see & live in many exotic lands at wang's expense. most important i was also able to visit you home office folks once or twice a year. in '84, i got married. this put constraints on living off a suit-bag and briefcase, and thereby my very usefulness to the wang field office declined. i returned to lowell in 87 in john chambers' org. my wife moved from city to city - houston, new orleans, miami etc. while pursuing her medical career. i followed, usually a year behind, racking up impressive airline mileage in eastern, pan am, and all the other defunct carriers. i exited wang in '91 while in new orleans and had a less than impressive tenure as a consultant. we came to the pittsburgh area in '94, and discovering our tendency to mark each city with a baby, have stayed put since. i have a low profile position crunching financial data for a hospital using some obscure 60s type programming language. family life however is great with priyanka (11), hari (10), and menaka (7). i have nothing but fond memories of the time i spent with you all and what you have taught me. Dan, for showing me bits, bytes, and overlays, and Anne for why there are more important things. Thea, i have never again stood in front of juggler, holding a plate full of potato chips. Rev. Rothenberg, thanks for your insights in financial world, Rich (Harvey Richmund, is it?) in architecture, Jenny in oriental culture, and Hilary for always letting me shoot you down in golini's multi user starwars. i could go on for ever on incidents that each of you has helped me with, but i dont want to make this any more verbose than it is. pls keep in touch, regards, ganesh (sxg) |
