Short BioI am a former Wang field engineer from France, and I worked for the company from 83 to 90. |

Stories and AnecdotesI started my job maintaining WP series connected to 10Mb Hawk disk unit at first, and then upgraded my skills with the complete OIS series and associated Phoenix CDC disks and network.I remember a serious problem we had in France with the OIS50 screen power supplies which exploded when we connected them to the 220V network due to a conception problem. We were almost 120 field technicians in Paris and surburbs playing with WP/OIS/VS/2200 and PC series. I enjoyed working for Wang and gained a lot with this valuable experience in maintenance and work methods. My last trace of this period I have is a Phoenix disk head mysteriously located in one of my tollboxes. With Word processing products, Wang had the leadership in that domain, but missed the evolution with open systems from my point of vue. Later, I maintained Sequent computers, another missing pionner in Unix multi-parallel architecture computer. Several months later, having a walk at the flea market (March aux puces) of Clignancourt in Paris, I discovered an original (in French) version of An Wang story by himself. I bought it! Of course. |
