Are My Dual Xeons Slowing Down My Gaming?
Currently, I have a Dell Precision 490 workstation, it has dual Xeon 2.0GHz processors which will be upgraded to 3.33GHz in the future, I also have 4GB of DDR2 RAM which will also be upgraded soon, my graphics card is an ATI Radeon HD5850, I know Xeons aren't really designed my gaming, but that's what I'm using the system for, I play Crysis Wars on them, and on larger maps I get lag, I believe the problem may be in the dual Xeons, another system I had which had 8GB of DDR3 RAM, the same HD5850 with a 3.16GHz Core 2 Duo, and I would get almost no lag, do ou think upgrading the processors will significantly increase gaming performance?
**Edit, Just wanted to note that the Xeons are dual core**
Answer:
The Processors are in Separate Sockets
Your System will be constantly polling the Unused Processor but there is no use for it.
Most games are still single thread but can use a second core for System functions to improve performance. The second seperate processor is dead weight.
The Core 2 Duo system didn't have this problem
Another factor is the Chipset. It is designed for Qaudro and FireGL graphics cards which have a different style BIOS that is not for a gaming Graphics card.

The Core2 Duo System has a chipset desinged to work with the mainstream HD5830 BIOS
Upgrading the processors will help sure, but it will probably still lag when the game places high demands on the graphics system.
The workstation graphics cards that are supported are designed more for OpenGL than DirectX
So the Chipset is probably lacking in full DirectX support.
